Materials

To create this enchanting Christmas tree ornament, you will need the following materials:

  • Yarn: Cotton 8/4
  • Crochet Hook: Size 2.5 mm
  • Stuffing (fiberfill)
  • Markers, needle and scissors

Abbreviations

Before we dive into the pattern, let’s review some of the abbreviations you will encounter:

R – round/row
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (2 sc in same stitch)
dec – invisible decrease
ch – chain stitch
slst – slip stitch
dc – double crochet
BLO – back loop only
st (sts) – stitch (stitches)
[…] – repeat instructions within […]
(…) – total number of sts per round
French knot

The Pattern

The pattern begins with green yarn. Here are the steps:

R1: 4 sc in magic ring (4)
R2: inc in all (8)
R3: sc in all (8)
R4: [sc, inc] x 4 (12)
R5: sc in all (12)
R6: [sc, inc, sc] x 4 (16)
R7: sc in all (16)
R8: [3 sc, inc] x 4 (20)
R9: sc in all (20)
R10: [2 sc, inc, 2 sc] x 4 (24)
R11: sc in all (24)
R12: [5 sc, inc] x 4 (28)
R13: sc in all (28)
R14: [3 sc, inc, 3 sc] x 4 (32)

Stuff

Switch to brown yarn to create the tree trunk.

R21: dec in all (10)

Finish stuffing.

Fasten off

Once you’ve completed the tree trunk, it’s time to add the red skirt. Here are the steps:

With red yarn, pull a loop in the first back loop from round 24.

R1: inc in all (20)
R2: [4 sc, inc] x 4 (24)
R3: [5 sc, inc] x 4 (28)
R4: [sc, inc] x 14 (42)
R5: slst in all (42)

Fasten off

And finally, add the finishing touches to your Christmas tree ornament with lights and a star.

Star

With yellow yarn.

R1: 5 sc in magic ring (5)
R2: [slst, dc, slst] in each st (15)

Fasten off and sew to the top of the tree.

Lights

Embroider French knots with different colors all around the tree.
