This Christmas Star pattern is a part of my #XmasAmiCAL series, a collection of free crochet patterns for Christmas ornaments. It’s a beginner-friendly project that will surely add a new sparkle to your Christmas tree.
Materials You’ll Need
Before we dive into the pattern, let’s gather all the materials we’ll need for this project:
- Yarn: Cotton 8/4
- Crochet Hook: Size 2.5 mm
- Stuffing (fiberfill)
- Markers, needle, and scissors
Now that we have everything, let’s get started!
Abbreviations
The pattern uses a few crochet abbreviations, which are standard in most patterns. Here’s a quick rundown:
R – round/row
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (2 sc in same stitch)
dec – invisible decrease
ch – chain stitch
slst – slip stitch
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble (triple crochet)
st (sts) – stitch (stitches)
[…] – repeat instructions within […]
(…) – total number of sts per round
The pattern
Now that we’re familiar with the abbreviations, let’s dive into the pattern:
Note: The chain 2 at the beginning of each round count as the first double crochet. You’ll need to make two pieces with the following pattern:
R1: [ch 2, 9 dc] in magic ring, slst in ch 2 (10)
R2: ch 2, [2 dc in same st] x 10, slst in ch 2 (20)
R3: ch 2, [2 dc in same st] x 20, slst in ch 2 (40)
R4: [slst, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, slst, slst] x 5 (40)
R5: [sc, hdc, 2 dc in same st, dc, 2 dc in same st, hdc, sc, slst] x 5 (50)
R6: [slst, sc, hdc, dc, (dc, tr, dc) in same st, dc, hdc, sc, slst, slst] x 5 (60)
Once you’ve completed the pattern, fasten off one of the pieces and leave a long tail on the other one to join the two pieces together.
Finishing the Christmas Star Ornament
Place the wrong sides of the two pieces together and make a slip stitch all around (60 stitches). Make sure to stuff your ornament as you go. Once you’re done, fasten off and weave in the ends. And there you have it – your very own Christmas Star ornament!
Happy crocheting, and have a very Merry Christmas!
